Red Dead Redemption 2: Money Lending and Other Sins – guide

Our Red Dead Redemption 2 Guide and Walkthrough covers the Money Lending and Other Sins mission, where you need to collect debts from various debtors throughout the story. The first debtor is Mr. Wrobel. Read on for more details.

Money Lending and Other Sins is a group of missions that become available in Red Dead Redemption 2\’s second chapter. The objective is to collect debts from people who owe Leopold Strauss.

Important note – Once you reach the third chapter of the main story, the game unlocks subsequent fence missions. However, they are considered side tasks. Our guide provides walkthroughs for all these missions in the side mission section.

How to unlock: Speak with Leopold Strauss in the gang hideout at Horseshoe Overlook.

Walkthrough: Leopold gives you a list of debtors. The first three debt-collecting missions can be completed in any order.

The first debtor is Mr. Wróbel. His house is on the hill behind the river, west from the gang hideout. Wróbel is inside the building. You can either threaten or beat him. Explore Wróbel\’s house to look for interactive containers and chests. You can choose to collect only items that are worth the same as the man\’s debt, or you can take everything.

The second debtor is Chick Matthews, who is on one of the farms. When you arrive, ask for Matthews, and he will run away. Chase him on horseback, and lasso him once you\’re close enough (as shown in picture 1). Matthews will give you Chick\’s Treasure Map, which you can examine in your inventory. Follow the map to where the treasure is hidden, right at the base of a large tree (as shown in picture 2).

Note – You cannot skip the chase section, even if you speak with Matthews while he is cleaning a horse. He will send Morgan to speak with someone else.

The third debtor is Lilly Millet from Emerald Ranch. Ask the locals for information about her, and then go to where Lilly and Cooper are. Defeat Cooper in a fistfight. He is a tough opponent, so use blocks. Collect the debt from Cooper\’s body.

Note – Collecting money from Cooper is considered a criminal act (theft). Either chase the witnesses before they inform the police or leave the ranch quickly.

Return to the hideout and place the collected goods into the camp funds chest. This is the first opportunity to check the Ledger and order hideout improvements. While optional, we recommend getting new upgrades at regular intervals (the camp funds chest should hold enough money for the project you want to order).

The two best projects are the upgrade for Dutch\’s lodging ($220) and the fast travel map ($325). Get both to unlock the option to fast travel to other locations from the gang hideout.

Meet with Strauss once again, who will give you the whereabouts of another debtor named Thomas Downes. Head to his farm and find him working in the garden. Approach him and allow him to attack the protagonist (which he will fail). You can either threaten him or beat him up, but you won\’t be able to collect the debt as he\’s severely ill and living in poverty with his family. Report everything back to Strauss.

How to Achieve a Gold Medal in the Money Lending and Other Sins Mission?

  1. Complete the mission in under 2 minutes and 10 seconds – This challenge is only applicable to the last debtor, Thomas Downes. The timer starts as soon as you reach the farm, so head straight to the garden and quickly choose your dialogue options to end the interaction swiftly. Then, make your way back to the gang hideout to speak with Strauss.
