How to unlock the quest

Begin the quest in the southeastern part of the Sinkholes. Follow the path shown in the images above until you spot one of the dragons residing in the Crater.

You won\’t be able to defeat the dragon immediately, but you can chase it away to its lair. The dragon will perch on the damaged parts of the ruins. Use your spear to attack the weak points located underneath the dragon (as shown in the picture).

Eventually, the dragon will fly away to its lair, triggering a related side quest.

Guide to finding the dragon\’s lair

Head south and use the chain to open the first gate. This passage will be useful later on.

Complete the Return of the River favor, which involves opening the dam and flooding the Crater. This will enable you to use boats in the Sinkholes. Use the boat to reach the location where the dragon first appeared.

Moor the boat and reach the northern chain. Interact with it to unlock the passage to the north.

Continue north towards the mission marker. Moor the boat and reach the gate shown in the picture.

Combat tips for defeating the Ash Tyrant

Navigate the cave while avoiding the dragon\’s fire attacks. Choose side passages instead of the main tunnel. Destroy the barricade by sticking three spears into the weak points and detonating them.

Defeat the regular enemies along the way until you reach a location where you need to climb a rock wall. This will take you to the northeastern part of the Sinkholes. After some more combat, climb to the dragon\’s lair.

The Ash Tyrant is a mini-boss with a long health bar. It will mostly attack from above. Jump away when it tries to grab Kratos and attack it after it lands back in the arena.

If you get crushed, press the button shown on the screen to free yourself.

There may be ordinary monsters in the arena between dragon attacks, so it\’s important to eliminate them quickly. The dragon will land on the ruins and may attack with fire, so blocking and throwing spears at the weak points can force it to land in the main part of the arena where it\’s vulnerable. Be careful of the boss\’s red attack that sets the arena on fire, and get out of its range. Once the boss\’s health bar is depleted, press R3 to complete the QTE and defeat the beast.
