Assassins Creed Valhalla: Smashing the Compass

This is a guide and walkthrough for the game Assassin\’s Creed Valhalla.

After defeating The Arrow and The Leech, Eivor, Stowe, and Erke are ready to lure out and get rid of The Compass for good.

The rewards for completing this mission are 3400 XP.

Meet Stowe and Erke

Travel to St. Paul\’s Cathedral to talk to Stowe and Erke. The people of Lunden are upset because they blame the Reeves for the assassinations of Avgos (The Arrow) and Sister Frideswid (The Leech).

Escape Saint Paul\’s

During Eivor\’s meeting with the Reeves, the cathedral is set on fire. One of the escape routes is through the window in the roof.

Jump onto the scaffolding and then across the beams to the room shown in the image above. Don\’t go down.

Climb to the top of the tower, break the boards blocking the exit, and get out of the burning building.

Rescue Stowe and Erke from the blaze

Someone has barricaded the church\’s exit door, and you need to break them down to release the Reeves from their fiery trap.

At the door, there is a group of guards. You can either eliminate all enemies and let the Reeves out of the church or free them immediately to help fight.

After the fight, talk to the men. Eivor saw a fleet of new ships enter the harbor from the roof of the building – it was The Compass coming to town. Stowe wants to use the Avgos\’ Springalds and cover the invaders with a rain of arrows. Erke would prefer to flank them and get to the boat. You have limited time to choose a plan of action.

1. Springalds with Stowe: Support the idea with Springalds and climb the defensive walls with Stowe. Attacking the enemy with ranged weapons is the easiest way to complete the mission.
2. Flanking with Erke: Follow Erke\’s plan if you feel comfortable as an assassin, but the mission will take longer.
3. I\’ll go alone: Choose your own way to the objective, and the Reeves will do their own work. The aim is the same – to kill The Compass.

Find and assassinate The Compass

No matter which option is chosen, the target is The Compass. The following walkthrough will cover the use of Springalds because it is the easiest way to complete the task.

To start the mission, set up on your firing position and begin eliminating enemy troops. Instead of aiming directly at them, target jugs filled with oil as the explosion will be big enough to kill soldiers. After clearing out the boats, jump between longboats until you reach the last ship where The Compass is located.

Before starting the boss fight with Vicelin (The Compass), use Springalds to shoot several projectiles at him. Aim at the sensitive points on his left and right elbow as well as his left knee. If you fail the first attempt, use the Focus of the Nornir skill or aim well to hit the boss\’ weak points.

Once Vicelin is weakened, he will be brought to his knees and exposed to a powerful attack that will take away half of his health bar. Keep an eye out for yellow rune flashes, which signal Vicelin\’s attacks and can be easily parried. Avoid or block attacks signaled by red flashes, which cannot be blocked.

Vicelin\’s special ability is to call for reinforcements and order attacks on the deck. Block or avoid arrows fired by nearby Springalds during this time. Once Vicelin is defeated, confirm the kill and speak to Stowe and Erke at the port to complete the mission and receive a reward of 3400 XP for forming an alliance with Lunden.
